Waitati School is proud to be a Green/Gold Enviro School.
The Enviroschools programme supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.
The programme provides pathways from early childhood through primary, intermediate and secondary school and beyond. Through our collaborative approach of building strong relationships and sharing information, we are growing a collective puna mātauranga or pool of knowledge.
Enviroschools is supported by a national team, in partnership with around 100 national and regional partners, including the majority of New Zealand’s councils. Facilitators from these partner organisations work with a suite of resources to progress the sustainability journey.
Below is a fantastic article about our Solar Power that featured in the National Education Gazette:
Manaaki Papatuanuku
There is a lot happening for Manaaki at the moment. Some of us are looking at the condition of our local waterways, some of us are busy working in the garden, some of us are harvesting and cooking, some of us are looking at how to build a rainwater catchment for our edible garden.
Ko te awa wi
At the end of the term we celebrated our stream that runs alongside the school. There were lots of fun games organised by tamariki from Kapuka and whanau helped clear and plant new the stream edge.
